Beeld & Geluid – GIF Battle

Brief summary:

Beeld en Geluid (Sound and Vision) is the Dutch institute for media culture; an inspiring, creative and accessible meeting place for private individuals and professionals. They interpret current developments concerning people, media and society from a media-historical perspective.

Beeld en Geluid does this by using their collection, as a media museum, as a knowledge institute and as an educational partner. They show people how media have evolved in (recent) history, follow current developments and respond to new media phenomena. In this way, they make a relevant contribution to an open media culture as part of a free society.

They organised a GIF Battle to encourage people to look into their digital collection and use the footage to create their own stories. This competition was held on the Media Summer Night in 2018 in Hilversum.

Process

We used material from Beeld en Geluid’s digital collection and built an identity around it. It had to be playful and should briefly explain to the contestants what they had to do in order to win.
